The city landmark is dedicated to perpetuate the memories of the pioneers and veterans of
Butler County. On November 27, 1902, the cornerstone of the memorial was placed. Clustered Doric
columns flank the entrance on the east side of the three-story neo-classical revival building.
Each art glass window is unique. While the exterior of the memorial is faced with cut stone, the
interior is finished with pink marble. On the temple dome stands a 17-foot bronze statue titled
Victory weighing 3,500 pounds. The monument received a new lighted dome in addition to interior
and exterior renovations as a result of a 1988 improvement project.
