The
Miami-Erie Canal Bikeway, constructed in the late 1970s, is a
short section connecting the Rentschler Forest Preserve with Headgates and
Canal Road offering an opportunity to walk, run and ride in a country
atmosphere. Campbell Avenue and Ford Boulevard lead into the north
part of Hamilton. Follow the markings to the Hamilton-Fairfield Bikeway.
Enjoy
Hamilton and Fairfield by bike, on foot, or on roller blades from the Hamilton-Fairfield
Bikeway, which connects Downtown Hamilton, travels to Joyce
Park, and then to the Water Works Park in Fairfield. The 6-mile bikeway
parallels the
Great Miami River
and winds through a nature preserve. Plans
are underway for a northern extension, which will connect
Hamilton
’s Bikeway with trails traveling through
Dayton
.
While
walking the bikeway, view the Great Miami River. With a central depth of 12
feet, the river offers sporting opportunities such as boating, skiing, jet
skis, and wave runners.
Located
adjacent to the bike path alongside the Great Miami River, the
Riverside Natural Area
offers more than 150 acres of natural
beauty including a shaded lagoon, wooded trail, large areas of wild flowers
and prairie grasses, and natural vegetation.
Here you will discover a surprising array of wildlife and waterfowl.
While
passing through Joyce Park, see activities including the Hamilton Ohio
Scale Auto Raceway (a radio-controlled model race car track), the HAWKS
radio-controlled model airplane flying field, a BMX bicycle motor cross track,
20 soccer fields, the new skate park, a driving range and miniature golf
course, and basketball. Joyce Park has the only city-maintained Whippet Track
in the Tri-State area where races are held April-November.
